1 USA Beats Iran 1-0, Advances At World Cup

It's on to the Round of 16 for the U.S. men's soccer team – that’s on Saturday. The United States team beat Iran one-to-nothing in their final group game at the World Cup in Qatar yesterday. But it’s not like Iran made it easy. The only goal was scored by Christian Pulisic, who was subbed out at halftime after injuring himself on the play. Later, US Soccer announced the star winger has a pelvic contusion and his status is day-to-day. The win is especially a big deal for the team as they failed to qualify back in 2018. Now? 2 Senate Passes Same-Sex, Interracial Marriage Bill

The Senate is passing a landmark marriage bill. The Respect for Marriage Act passed Tuesday afternoon as 12 Republican senators voted along with Democrats to advance the bill, which requires the federal government to recognize the validity of same-sex and interracial marriages in the United States. The bill was first introduced after the Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade in June, essentially ending the constitutional right to abortion. The Respect For Marriage Act is now headed to the House, which is expected to pass it, before heading to President Biden's desk. As for the Republican Senators who crossed the aisle, they were Susan Collins (Maine), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Rob Portman (Ohio), Thom Tillis (N.C.), Mitt Romney (Utah), Roy Blunt (Mo.), Cynthia Lummis (Wyo.), Richard Burr (N.C.), Shelley Moore Capito (W.Va.), Dan Sullivan (Alaska), Joni Ernst (Iowa) and Todd Young (Ind.). Notably not on that list? Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell…who is married to Elaine Chao, the former U.S. secretary of Transportation…first Asian American woman to have the job.
