3 Things To Know Today

1 Houston Placed Under Boil Water Notice

The nation’s fourth largest city – that’d be Houston – is now under a boil water notice. Officials have directed the population of 2.3-million to boil anything they plan to use for drinking, cooking, bathing – even brushing their teeth – for at least three minutes. What happened? Water pressure dropped below minimum standards after a power outage at its main water plant. Residents are being told not to drink the water without boiling it for two minutes. The earliest day the notice will be lifted is tomorrow. "The State of Texas is immediately responding and deploying support to Houston as they work to get a safe supply of water back online," Texas Governor Abbott says in a statement. "We have been in contact with Mayor Turner to offer the full support of the state, and we're currently working to fulfill the city's request for help with rapid turnaround of water sample results.”

2  Moving On From The Pandemic Is Possible, If Vaxxed

Americans can move on from the pandemic…that is, if they keep their immunity up to date. That's the word from Dr. Ashish Jha. Appearing on ABC's This Week, the White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator expressed cautious optimism in the face of a so-called "triple-demic" of COVID, flu, and RSV. This comes as the Biden administration launches a six-week campaign for Americans to get their booster shots, for which rates continue to be low. Jha went on to say that RSV, which is most dangerous to the elderly and small children, is potentially starting to trend down. “So, look, it's been obviously a long two and a half years for Americans,” Dr. Jha offered. “And we understand that, you know, people want to move on. The good news is, people can move on if they keep their immunity up to date.”

3 Trump Facing Backlash Over Mar-a-lago Dinner

Former President Trump is facing rising criticism after hosting Ye (the rapper formerly known as Kanye West) and white nationalist Nick Fuentes at his Mar-a-Lago resort last week. And it’s not just from one side of aisle – Democrat and Republican lawmakers, various organizations and Jewish officials have roundly condemned Mr. Trump’s interaction with the pair. Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, for example, called it “another example of an awful lack of judgment…which, combined with his past poor judgments, make him an untenable general election candidate for the Republican Party in 2024.” For his part, Trump maintains it wasn’t his fault. Taking to his TruthSocial account, Trump says he only expected to welcome Ye – who he’s now calling a “troubled man” – and that Ye showed up “with 3 people, two of which I didn’t know, the other a political person who I haven’t seen in years.” He’s also calling the kerfuffle over the event “fake news.”
