1 Trump Is Officially Subpoenaed…But Will He Testify?
The congressional committee investigating last year's Capitol attack has officially issued a subpoena to former President Trump. In a letter to him, the panel wants relevant documents by November 4th. They also want Trump to participate "in one or more days of deposition testimony, beginning on or about November 14th." The panel says Trump was "at the center of the first and only effort by any U.S. President to overturn an election and obstruct the peaceful transfer of power." Will he testify? It’s up to Mr. Trump, who can refuse to comply with a subpoena or invoke his Fifth Amendment right to refuse to answer questions by committee members if he chooses. But Congress can hold him in contempt if he refuses to comply. For his part, Trump has said he may testify…as long as he can do so on live TV. Congresswoman Liz Cheney has said the committee will manage the hearing in a "serious" way.
