2 Justice Department Appeals “Special Master” Ruling

The Justice Department filed a notice on Thursday that it’s appealing the Florida federal court ruling that appointed a special master to review the documents seized by the FBI at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence; they also asked Judge Aileen Cannon to partially lift her ruling so investigators can continue reviewing the 103 most sensitive documents seized. Trump and his attorneys have until Monday morning to respond to the request to resume investigating the documents. The Justice Department’s appeal will be considered by the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, where six of the 11 active judges are Trump appointees. The appeals court will have a new claim to consider; in the court filing, the Justice Department says that Trump’s team may not have returned all the classified records removed from the White House even after the FBI search of his home. US prosecutors are warning that the possibly unreturned documents are a potential national security risk.
