1 Trump Legal Team Responds To DOJ Filing Ahead Of Decision

Former President Trump's legal team has responded to the Department of Justice’s filing Tuesday night. Trump’s lawyers are re-emphasizing its push to have a third party review documents seized in the FBI's raid of his Florida home. In their response, Trump's lawyers argued they want an independent special master to decide questions of executive privilege – something Trump hasn’t brought up since the raid. This comes after the Justice Department opposed the move, saying there's no legal basis to appoint one. As for the D-O-J, they maintain the raid was the only way to collect the classified material - as on at least two occasions his camp maintained everything had been returned to the government. Then officials developed information suggesting otherwise. A federal judge – who, as it happens, was appointed by Mr. Trump – is set to hear both sides of the case this afternoon beginning at12 pm.

2 Biden To Speak About Battle For "Soul Of America" Tonight

President Biden will be in Philadelphia tonight – speaking at Independence Hall for a primetime speech. The address will air across various networks and is set to begin at 7pm . White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has told reporters the speech will address the battle for the "soul of America." She said Biden will again warn about "MAGA Republicans." “The president thinks that there is an extremist threat to our democracy,” Jean-Pierre noted. “The president has been as clear as he can be on that particular piece.” Historically, major prime-time speeches, are only used for a president to speak directly to the public about issues of major national concern. While that may be the case here, it’s also clear to a number of watchers on both sides of the aisle that Mr. Biden’s timing has a lot to do with the upcoming mid-term elections.

3 Serena Beats World No. 2 At U.S. Open

Serena Williams is adding to her legendary status in what's likely the final tournament of her career. Last night, the 40-year-old took down Anett Kontaveit in three sets at the U.S. Open, punching her ticket to the third round of the singles bracket. Kontaveit came into the match as the number two women's tennis player in the world. Williams is now set to play doubles with her sister Venus today. Her next solo match is tomorrow. "This is what I do best,” Williams said on the court after the match. “I love a challenge. I love rising to a challenge. I haven't played many matches, but I've been practicing really well, and my last few matches, it just wasn't coming together. ... The last couple matches here in New York, it's really coming together." Apparently so!
