1 Severe Heatwave Continues Cooking The Country

As you may have heard, Europe is baking – and in fact, and the hottest temperature ever was recorded in London yesterday. It’s not much different here. With temps of 90-degrees overnight in Texas, more than 100-million Americans continue to face extreme heat today and will through the rest of the week. In fact, alerts are stretching from California to Massachusetts. How impressive is what’s happening? More than half of the country is seeing temperatures in excess of 90-degrees with many areas likely to set records. Unfortunately, the dangerous heat is expected to hang over the Midwest and temperatures will continue to rise as it moves east. There is, however, a little relief in sight over the next week.

2 Multiple Democratic Lawmakers Arrested At Pro-Abortion Rally

Capitol Police have confirmed that a number of Democratic lawmakers were arrested at an abortion rights rally outside the Capitol yesterday. Those taken into custody by police included Congresswomen Ilhan Omar, Veronica Escobar, Ayanna Pressley, Jackie Speier and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. In all, a total of 16 lawmakers were arrested. The demonstration comes more than three weeks after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and ended federally protected access to abortion. Representatives Speier and Escobar later tweeted they were "proud" to protest alongside their Democratic colleagues. On a related note…in the wake of the Roe v. Wade overturn, health facilities across the country are seeing a dramatic rise in requests for information about sterilization. Michelle Muldrow in San Antonio said the number of women coming into her practice requesting sterilization is unprecedented. “I’ve had more consultations for sterilizations in volume per patient load than I’ve ever had in my career,” she tells the “Los Angeles Times.” Muldrow notes that while she used to see a couple of patients for sterilization every now and then, she’s now seeing them daily.

3 Uvalde Schools Police Chief Could Be Fired Saturday

Pete Arredondo, the embattled chief of the Uvalde, Texas school district could be out of a job before the weekend is over – and that would be just fine with the parents there. As we told you earlier this week, families of the children killed and the survivors have been demanding it. But now, CNN is reporting that a source close to discussions about Chief Arredondo's fate said school district officials are expected to fire Arredondo when they meet on Saturday. Arredondo has been under relentless criticism since the May 24th mass shooting that killed 19 students and two teachers at Robb Elementary School because of his absolute neglect of duty and not directing officers in to stop the gunman for more than 70-minutes.
