1 Gunman Kills Six, Injures Dozens More At IL Holiday Parade
Police are questioning a person of interest in an Illinois parade shooting. Officers say 22-year-old Robert E. Crimo, the Third is linked to yesterday’s killing of six people today during a Fourth of July parade north of Chicago in Highland Park. Dozens of others were injured. Police said earlier the gunman opened fire on the parade crowd from a rooftop with a rifle. After his name and image were release, police spotted Crimo's vehicle in North Chicago and took him into custody without incident after a brief chase. No charges have been filed yet. While the shooter's family has been quoted as saying they didn’t have any concerns about him, a video posted online eight months ago now appears to offer a clue about his plans for the future – certainly as it relates to yesterday’s events. In the clip, Crimo is in a room with a newspaper clipping of Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald posted on the wall behind him and, hints towards a school shooting. The voice on the video can be heard saying "I need to just do it, it is my destiny. Nothing can stop me." The investigation continues.
2 Officers On Leave Following Shooting Death Of Black Man In OH
Protests are continuing in Ohio as police body camera video has revealed more details in last week's shooting of an unarmed Black man in Ohio. But also? Authorities have placed eight officers on leave as the investigation continues into the shooting death of 25-year-old Jayland Walker. Walker was shot to death by eight officers following a police chase last Monday. Officers say he failed to comply with a traffic stop and allegedly fired at officers from his moving vehicle. Walker later left the vehicle and attempted to run from officers before being killed. Video shows him wearing a ski mask, but not carrying a weapon at the time of the shooting. A handgun and a magazine were later recovered from his vehicle. Akron Police Chief Stephen Mylett spoke yesterday after the release of the footage and while he wouldn’t confirm reports officers fired at least 60 shots, but he expects the number to be "high" based on the footage.
3 Holiday Weekend Brings Nightmare For Travelers
Americans are still dealing with more flight delays surrounding the July 4th holiday. Since Thursday, more than two-thousand domestic flights – with another 25-thousand being delayed. Yesterday alone, more than two-thousand flights within, into, or out of the U.S. didn’t take off. In all, eight-percent of American Airlines' flights have been delayed while United and Delta are just below that number. The TSA says it screened nearly two-and-a-half million people at the beginning of the weekend, the most since before the pandemic. Before it was over, more than nine-million flyers passed through US airports between Thursday and Sunday. It’s believed some of the system strain will ease today – though it’s still a smart idea to check with your carrier before hitting the airport.
