1 TX Shooting: The Shooter Offered Warning

A timeline of this week’s deadly shooting at a South Texas elementary school is being released. Governor Greg Abbott says the 18-year-old shooter then fled his grandmother's home after shooting her, but his truck wrecked out by Robb Elementary in Uvalde. Abbott says the man got into a shootout with School District police, but was able to get into a back door. He went down a corridor, entered a classroom, and started shooting. He was reportedly barricaded for as long as 40 minutes before being taken down by police. But even worse, the shooter apparently offered an online warning of his plans – and updates. Governor Abbott says the shooter “posted” on Facebook three times before the deadly massacre at Robb elementary school. But according to the platform, unlike Abbott described, the gunman had sent one-to-one direct messages, not public posts, and that they weren’t discovered until “after the terrible tragedy.” The FBI is involved in the investigation and during a Senate hearing, FBI Director Chris Wray said many mass shooters are "lone actors" who are looking for "soft targets." He said they're often motivated by personal grievances and, in some cases, "incoherent beliefs."

2 FDA Chief Pressed On National Baby Formula Shortage

The top man at the FDA says ensuring a safe and ample supply of baby formula is a top priority for his agency, but his reason for the massive shortage might surprise you: officials are blaming it all on the FDA Mailroom – but more on that in a second. Testifying on Capitol Hill. Commissioner Dr. Robert Califf  told a House hearing the FDA is working aggressively to alleviate the national shortage of baby formula. He blamed the recall shutdown of an Abbott Nutrition plant in Michigan. He called conditions at the plant “appalling.” Califf also accused Abbott of having "no backup plan." But here’s the thing - Frank Yiannas, the deputy commissioner for food policy and response – is saying that the FDA couldn’t have acted sooner to address issues…because a whistleblower’s report got lost in the FDA mailroom. “Why didn’t we act more quickly on the complaints and the whistleblower report? Who knew what when?” Yiannas told the newspaper. “Hard copies addressed to these individuals were not forwarded from the FDA mailrooms, likely due to COVID-19-related mail routing issues.”

3 President Biden Touts New Executive Order On Police Reform

President Biden is touting his new executive order on national police reform. Speaking at the White House, Biden said the order aims to police accountability. The President said efforts to craft national police reform legislation have fallen short in Congress. And that’s why he marked the second anniversary of the death of George Floyd with signing the order. He was an unarmed Black man who died in police custody in Minneapolis. On that note, former President Obama is also remembering the anniversary of Floyd’s death. Taking to Twitter, he said while we are grieving the children killed in Uvalde, Texas, we should recognize the grim anniversary of Floyd's death at the knee of a police officer. He also applauded the new generation of activists who channeled their anguish over Floyd's death into organized action and launched a movement to reform systematic racism and the police system. Obama then provided a link with a list of places to get involved with various movements.
