1 Elon Musk Buys Twitter For $44B

Elon Musk will be the new owner of Twitter as the social media platform has accepted the Tesla CEO's $44-billion bid. And Musk’s first order of business? Twitter will no longer be a publicly traded company once Musk becomes the owner. Musk has previously said Twitter needs to go private to become a genuine free speech platform and reach its true potential. “I want to make Twitter better than ever,” Musk says in a statement. “By enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential — I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.” Prior to the deal being announced, Musk tweeted he wants his harshest critics to stay on the site. He said, "that is what free speech means." Twitter said shareholders will get just over 54-dollars a share as part of the transaction. That means the deal involving the Tesla CEO is worth about 44-billion dollars. The most famous former tweeter? Former President Donald Trump. And even though Musk hasn't commented on the possibility of restoring Trump's account, Trump has indicated he has no plans to go back to Twitter and will instead focus on his own social media platform, TRUTH Social.

2 Russia's Lavrov Warns Not To Underestimate Nuclear Risk

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is warning the West not to underestimate the risk of nuclear war. Speaking on Russian state television, Lavrov said NATO is in essence engaged in a proxy war with Russia through its efforts to supply Ukraine with weapons. He insisted that Russia was doing a lot to prevent nuclear war at all costs. Russian President Vladimir Putin? He put his country's nuclear forces on high alert as his military started its invasion of neighboring Ukraine in late February. Meanwhile, a Russian official says his country doesn't believe a ceasefire is a good option right now. While speaking at the UN, the deputy to Russia's ambassador to the UN said a ceasefire would only give Ukrainian forces the chance to "regroup and to stage more provocations like Bucha." Bucha, of course, is where the world got the first real clear view of Russia’s war crimes.

3 Execution Stay Issued For Texas Latina On Death Row

A stay of execution is being issued for the only Latina on Texas death row. State Representative Jeff Leach tweeted The Court of Criminal Appeals granted the stay for Melissa Lucio. She was given the death penalty in 2008 following the death of her two-year-old. The mother of 14 has long said her daughter died after a fall down the stairs. Over 100 Texas Republican and Democratic lawmakers have asked for her execution to be stayed and for her to be given a new trial. They cite the seven hours of interrogation Lucio was put through by Texas Rangers without a lawyer present. The case now goes back to the trial court.
