1 Tunnel Fire Rapidly Burning North Of Phoenix
A fire burning about 140 miles north of Phoenix, Arizona is forcing evacuations. The Coconino National Forest says as of last night, the Tunnel fire has burned over six-thousand acres near Flagstaff. It is zero percent contained. So far, more than two dozen buildings have been destroyed and 750 homes have been evacuated, but there's no word on any injuries. High winds are helping the fire rapidly spread. "The rapid movement of the progression of this fire made the evacuation much more difficult and complicated than we’ve had in the past," Coconino Sheriff Jim Driscoll told reporters last night. "We had some difficulties getting some people to leave and we’re still trying to confirm those that may have chosen to stay in their neighborhoods and not honor the mandatory evacuation."
2 Pentagon Having Internal Discussions About Long-Term Posture In Europe
With the United States’ continued support of Ukraine amid the Russian invasion as the backdrop, the Pentagon is talking about the future of the U.S. presence in Europe. At a briefing, Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby said those discussions haven't gone as far as detailed negotiations with other countries about size or whether the footprint would be permanent or rotational. He emphasized that while these discussions can come up, they're not yet a larger part of discussions with other nations and their willingness to host U.S. forces. Kirby said the focus remains on how to best support Ukraine. Meanwhile, President Biden is opening up about possibly visiting Ukraine. While in New Hampshire, Biden said he “doesn't know” if he will get to make another trip there. It came while Biden was promoting the role of ports in the U.S. economy in his visit to New England.
3 Netflix Loses Subscribers In Q1
Netflix is losing subscribers in a quarter for the first time in more than ten years. How bad is it? The streaming giant lost 200-thousand subscribers during the first three months of this year. Netflix had previously forecast a subscriber gain of two-and-a-half million. There are suspicions that the platform’s cracking down on password sharing. Either way, word is that subscribers could soon see ads. The upside? Ads could come with a lower-priced tier.
