1 New Orleans Area Slammed By Tornado

The damage is widespread in the New Orleans area after a tornado touched down last night. At last check, one person is confirmed dead, a number of people are injured and thousands spent the night in the dark. Among the areas hardest hit? The city’s Ninth Ward – which you’ll recall was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The area has yet to truly recover. Officials say there are spots of "total devastation" in the lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. Arabi, which is located in St. Bernard Parish, is said to have also suffered "significant" damage. As the system moves on, at least 50-million people throughout the region remain at risk of severe storms.

2 Ukraine President Set To Join NATO Summit As Forces Retake Key City

The leader of war-torn Ukraine is invited to speak at tomorrow’s NATO summit. NATO confirmed it's offered Ukrainian President Zelenskyy the opportunity to address the group by secure video link. President Biden will take part in the emergency meeting in Brussels, Belgium. News of the invitation comes as Zelenskyy says he's ready to discuss a deal to end the Russian invasion of his country. This, ask Ukrainian soldiers have reportedly retaken Makariv – a key town near the capitol of Kyiv. Meanwhile, there's American officials say there’s "clear evidence" Russia targeted numerous places in Ukraine including hospitals and places where folks were taking shelter. That's according to a U.S. defense official. That same person also said Russian forces may be committing war crimes based on "indications of behavior on the ground."

3 Fireworks On Capitol Hill As Ketanji Brown Jackson Closes Day Two

The first Black woman nominated to the Supreme Court is buckling up for a second day of questioning. Federal Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson was positively grilled for about 12 hours yesterday during her Senate confirmation hearings. Along the way, she was asked about her decisions in sentencing defendants in child porn cases, her work as a public defender – she defended detainees at Guantanamo Bay – and spoke on issues such as crime, abortion, gender and critical race theory. She was even questioned about her faith Still, while Senators such as Ted Cruz of Texas tried to knock Judge Jackson down, watchers say that none of the salvos fired landed. The only real brouhaha was an exchange between South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham and Illinois’ Dick Durbin about the release of Guantanamo prison detainees. Graham walked out in a huff. Today, senators will question outside witnesses.
