1 Russia Mounts Full-Scale Invasion Of Ukraine
At the exact moment the United Nations Security Council was meeting to urge Russian to restrain itself and stop it’s action with Ukraine…Russian President Vladimir Putin was announcing to his people…that he was invading the country. In the hours since, explosions have been heard across the country – and casualties are already being reported – though on which side is unclear. Still, the message abundantly clear? That no one supports the action. That was obvious at the UN Security Council where every nation urged Russia to pull back on what they’re now calling not war, but a “strategic military operation. President Biden will address the nation about the issue later today – and his address is expected to include plans for increased sanctions. In a statement late last night, Biden said his prayers are with the people of Ukraine as they "suffer an unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces." He said the "premeditated war" will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering.
2 Pentagon Approves Requests For National Guard For Trucker Convoy
A convoy of truckers is on its way to the nation's capital to protest COVID-19 vaccine and mask requirements. The self-proclaimed "People's Convoy" left California yesterday headed to Washington D.C., inspired by massive Canadian trucker protests that paralyzed that nation's capital. The convoy so far consists of about two dozen 18-wheelers and 50 other assorted vehicles. While they are protesting mask mandates, most of those have already been lifted in most parts of the country. The plan for the protest is to block the DC beltway. To that end, the Pentagon is approving a request for National Guard assistance. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin approved the request from the DC Metro police Department and U.S. Capitol Police as trucker protesters are expected to arrive in the area soon.
3 Next Winter Storm Starts In West With Rain, Snow
Winter's not done yet! A sizable chunk of the nation is bracing for another blast of winter weather. The West is dealing with rain and high winds, moving into more states today. This latest storm - dubbed Oaklee, by the Weather Channel - will bring at least a foot of snow to areas in California, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado. It will then spread into central states with ice and snow expected to make for dangerous driving from Texas into Mississippi and Ohio valleys. The Northeast will get hit by tonight. What's that mean for you? If you're in affected areas, roads are expected to be a mess, at least...but could be on the treacherous side. But flights across the country are also being grounded. At last check, about 12-hundred flights have been cancelled.
