1 State Dept: Russian Attack On Ukraine Could Happen “At Any Time”
National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan says the U.S. is ready to respond to any Russian action regarding Ukraine. Appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” Sullivan declined to say if he thought an invasion was “imminent,” but explained that anything is possible. Sullivan added that predicting the day-to-day movements of Russia was not his job, but added he's responsible for making sure the U.S. is prepared for any scenario. Meanwhile Moscow is accusing the U.S. of "scaremongering" over the Russian buildup of military forces along the border with Ukraine. Russia's deputy ambassador to the UN made the comment on Twitter, noting the recent U.S. assessment of a possible invasion of Ukraine as a prime example. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said last week that U.S. intelligence believes Russia may produce a propaganda video showing a fake attack against its forces to justify an invasion. As for why non-Russians believe that Putin’s ready to roll on Ukraine? At last check, 70% of Russia's army is now situated at Ukraine's border.
2 Protestors Take To The Minneapolis Streets In Response To Amir Locke's Death
Hundreds of protestors have been taking to the streets of Minneapolis in response to the police killing of a 22-year-old Black man. Amir Locke was asleep when police entered with a ‘no-knock warrant.’ The demonstrators are demanding justice for Locke, who was fatally shot while apparently asleep, grabbing a firearm he owned legally, video shows Locke was startled when he grabbed the gun – and it doesn’t appear that he pointed at officers. Since the incident Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has announced a ban on almost all no-knock warrants except in cases of imminent danger. Amir’s mother, Karen Wells, says her heart was ripped out of her chest upon hearing how her son died. "He was respectful of law enforcement," she offers. "I was overjoyed with Amir as my son. Amir was loved by all, hated by none. A mother should never have to see her child executed in that type of manner. I gave birth to Amir — not Minneapolis — I did, and you all took him."
3 Coast Guard Rescues 18 People On Floating Ice On Lake Erie
Officials say people are safe after they were trapped on ice on Lake Erie in Ohio. The U.S. Coast Guard said a sheet of floating ice broke away while the people were snowmobiling near Catawba Island. They added a Coast Guard Station Marblehead airboat and an Air Station Detroit helicopter were used to rescue the stranded group. A "Good Samaritan" civilian with an airboat is also being credited with helping in the rescue. In the best news, no one needed medical attention after the incident. Apparently, the National Weather Service in Cleveland had warned that higher winds could cause ice to break away from the lakeshore – and had issued warnings for people to stay off the ice. "There's no such thing as safe ice, but people can mitigate their risks," said Lt. j.g. Jeremiah Schiessel with the Coast Guard Sector Detroit. "Always be sure to tell someone where you're going and when you expect to be back. Great Lakes ice is unpredictable, and conditions can change fast."
