1 Trump Allies Wanted Trump To Intervene On January 6th
The House committee investigating the January 6th Capitol attack is voting to hold Mark Meadows in contempt. The former White House Chief of Staff refused to sit for a deposition to answer questions about former President Trump's actions on the day. But before he shut down, he turned over a number of documents, including texts. During yesterday’s hearing, Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney read a number of those texts from Trump allies – including his own son – that were sent to Meadows as chaos exploded around the capitol. Among them? Fox News hosts Laura Ingraham, Brian Kilmeade and Sean Hannity, who all begged Meadows to have Trump send people home – and preserve his legacy. Donald Trump, Jr. was equally emphatic, saying his father needed “to condemn this ASAP. The Capitol Police tweet is not enough." Ms. Cheney noted that texts "leave no doubt.” She added, “The White House knew exactly what was happening here at the Capitol." But she wasn’t alone. A bipartisan panel of nine-members voted unanimously on the decision to hold Meadows in contempt, which means the proceedings will now move to the full House. If passed today, Meadows would become the second ally of Trump to be sanctioned for defying a subpoena, joining Steve Bannon.
2 Biden To Visit Tornado Ravaged Areas As Death Toll Rises
It could take weeks to know the full extent of damage from a tornado outbreak in Kentucky. That’s the word from Governor Andy Beshear, who has confirmed at least 74 people lost their lives in his state – the death toll overall stands at 88 across five states. Still, the Kentucky death toll is expected to rise – as 100 people are still missing. Meanwhile, President Biden has approved a disaster declarations for eight counties in the state and plans to tour the destruction tomorrow. After a White House meeting with homeland security and FEMA officials, Biden called the weekend damage "devastating" and "pretty rough stuff." He also used the word "stunning" and said his administration is fully committed to recovery from the deadly storms. Biden added -- "We're going to get this done we're going to be there as long as it takes to help."
3 Oxford Study: Omicron Variant Can Hit Double Vaccinated
A double dose of the coronavirus vaccine is proving to be less effective at warding off the new Omicron variant when compared to previous variants. That's according to new research out of the University of Oxford. Researchers tested blood samples of people 28 days after their second dose of either the Oxford-AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccine. Scientists reported a "substantial fall" in neutralizing antibodies that fight the coronavirus compared to the immune responses seen against earlier variants. The research noted some vaccine recipients "failed to neutralize the virus at all." Researchers were optimistic a booster shot would improve immunity against the transmissible COVID strain. The pre-print study has yet to be peer reviewed.
