3 Things To Know Today

1 Senate Passes Resolution To Repeal Biden's Vax Mandate

President Biden likes to champion bipartisanship, but he’s clearly not fond of the way that was displayed in the Senate yesterday. The Senate has voted to block Biden’s vaccine mandate on private employers. All Republicans voted for the resolution, with two Democrats crossing the aisle. The measure will now head to the House where it faces a tougher route to passage. The Biden Administration has also threatened to veto it if it makes it to the President's desk. As for the Dems part of the 52-to-48 vote, they were Senators Joe Manchin and Jon Tester joining every Republican in support of the legislation. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer denounced the plan and said blocking the mandate would damage the country's efforts to contain the coronavirus.

2 Biden Promotes Big Infrastructure Bill In KC Speech

President Biden is again promoting the big infrastructure bill he signed recently. Speaking at a transit maintenance facility in Kansas City, Biden said it's about "building a better America." He noted that the infrastructure plan will renovate the "arteries of the nation," including highways, bridges, rails, ports and airports. Biden said it will produce many good new union jobs. He also talked about how difficult it was to get a sweeping infrastructure bill through Congress after decades of inaction. The Kansas City trip came as the White House is retooling its message about the effort and launching the website, Build.gov, to describe the infrastructure law and ask supporters to upload videos explaining how the law impacts their lives.

3 Dr. Fauci Says Fully Vaccinated Will Soon Mean Having A Booster

Dr. Anthony Fauci says he thinks it will only be a matter of time before the definition of "fully vaccinated" includes having a booster shot. Speaking on CNN, Fauci said that federal health officials are watching the threat of mutated strains of the omicron variant "daily." His comments come after both Pfizer and BioNTech said the two-course system of their vaccine is much less effective at fighting the omicron strain. Early data shows that a booster shot increases neutralizing antibodies that can fight the virus. As for when that change might come down the pike, Fauci isn’t so sure. "Right now,” he added. “I don't see that changing tomorrow or next week.” For the record, the omicron variant hasn't been such an issue for severe infection, is the delta variant that experts say is fueling the current surge.
