2 Chris Cuomo Out At CNN
CNN is suspending prime-time anchor Chris Cuomo “indefinitely, pending further evaluation” after new documents reveal “a greater level of involvement” in his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s sexual harassment scandal. The decision leaves CNN without their most-watched anchor, who has declined to comment on his suspension. In a statement, a rep for CNN says that they initially “appreciated the unique position [Cuomo] was in and understood his need to put family first and job second” when Cuomo admitted he’d offered advice to his brother’s staff amid the scandal, despite it breaking the network’s rules. But in light of the New York Attorney General’s office’s new documents released Monday, they’ve given Cuomo the boot. The docs included text messages and transcripts of interviews with investigators who led the probe into the sexual harassment allegation, and revealed Cuomo used his connections in the press to help his then-governor brother’s team.
3 FDA Advisory Committee Gives Green Light To Merck's COVID-19 Pill
As the federal government continues to promote booster shots as a means for grappling with the coronavirus pandemic, Merck’s has an experimental pill designed to fight COVID-19. The company had asked the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to authorize emergency use of its antiviral pill. The FDA has done exactly that – though it wasn’t a slam dunk by any means. Calling the decision "difficult,” the committee voted 13-10 in favor of the drug. It will be the first pill used to treat COVID. The New Jersey-based company recently said it helped reduce hospitalizations and deaths by 30-percent. That number was previously at 50-percent last month – though it was a limited study. Still, the development is giving hope to those concerned about the arrival of the Omicron variant. Still, the CDC maintains that vaccination and booster shots are the best way to keep COVID numbers down. Meanwhile, the FDA is not required to follow the advisory committee’s guidance, but it usually does. A final ruling by the agency is expected soon.
