1 Former NY Gov. Cuomo Charged With Misdemeanor Sex Crime
Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has officially been charged with misdemeanor "forcible touching." This follows a criminal probe that stemmed from a number of women accusing the now-former governor of inappropriate sexual conduct. But here’s where it gets strange – the arrest warrant issued by the Albany County Sheriff's Office was filed without the advance knowledge of the Albany County District Attorney. "Like the rest of the public, we were surprised to learn today that a criminal complaint was filed in Albany City Court," said District Attorney David Soares. "The Office of Court Administration has since made that filing public. Our office will not be commenting further on this case." The charge accuses Cuomo of forcibly touching a woman whose name was redacted from the filing, but but a lawyer representing former Cuomo aide Brittany Commisso has acknowledged it’s her. Cuomo resigned in August as state lawmakers were preparing impeachment proceedings.
2 Settlement Announced In SC Church Shooting
The Justice Department has settled with families who sued after the deadly 2015 shooting at a South Carolina church for $88-million. As you might recall, nine people were killed when a 21-year-old white supremacist entered a Bible study Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church and began firing a handgun. The settlement is split two ways: $63-million for families and $25-million for survivors. The families of those killed will get between six and seven-and-a-half million dollars – while those who survived will get five-million. The lawsuits centered around allegations of negligence by the FBI when they failed to stop the shooter from buying a gun – as he had a criminal conviction that should have prevented his obtaining a weapon. Following his conviction, he was sentenced to death.
3 Biden Admin Considering Payments To Separated Families
The Biden administration is reportedly considering payments of $450-thousand per person to the illegal migrant families separated at the border due to the Trump administration’s zero-tolerance policy. In the course of a lawsuit, the ACLU has identified approximately 5,500 children affected by the policy, which advocates say caused physical and mental trauma. So far, around 940 claims have been filed by immigrant families. The average demand in each lawsuit adds up to approximately $3.4-million per family, while the settlement offer being mooted by the Biden administration amounts to around $1-million per family.
