3 Things To Know Today

1 Apparent Human Remains Found In Brian Laundrie Search

The FBI in Tampa, Florida is confirming "items of interest" were found at the Carlton Reserve yesterday morning in connection with the search for Brian Laundrie. The agency says an FBI Evidence Response team is processing the scene and that partial human remains have been found along with some of Laundrie's personal items. Authorities have been searching for the fiancé of Gabby Petito for five weeks now – and in this case, they were essentially led to the site. The Laundrie family attorney says Chris and Roberta Laundrie informed the FBI and the local police department of their intentions to go to the area Tuesday night – and met officials there yesterday morning. The particular section in the swampy area was apparently covered in water the last time searchers came through. As the investigation continues, the Federal Aviation Administration is also imposing a Temporary Flight Restriction for Venice, Florida – particularly in the area where police have been searching.

Officials speaking on the condition of anonymity say the attack appeared to include at least one drone strike and possibly groundfire. So far, there have been no reports of American casualties. Nobody has taken responsibility for the attack.

3 Parkland Shooter Pleads Guilty, Apologizes

The man who pleaded guilty to 17 counts of first-degree murder in the 2018 mass shooting at a Florida high school is apologizing. In a rambling statement. Nikolas Cruz said sorry to his victims several times after pleading guilty in the Parkland school massacre. Speaking to the courtroom, he said the incident brings him nightmares. Cruz asked the judge to give him a second chance so he could try to help others. He added that everyone should stop doing drugs due to the racism and violence it causes. He said to the victims, "I'm doing this for you" and "I love you." The shooting claimed the lives of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. A sentencing trial is expected in the coming months. Cruz could be sentenced to death – or life in prison. Each murder charge carries a minimum of life in prison without parole, and the attempted murder charges carries either 20 or 25 years as minimums.
