1 Tennessee Hit By Historic And Deadly Flooding
Officials say that more than 20 people are dead and dozens of others are missing in historic flooding in Middle Tennessee. The National Weather Service says Saturday's flooding in Dickson, Hickman, Houston, and Humphreys counties is the deadliest in Mid-State history. Victims who survived the flooding say the rain was like a tornado with regard to how quickly it came on. We’re talking as much as 17-inches of rain falling within a six-hour period Saturday morning with another round of severe weather hitting the same area on Saturday night. Loretta Lynn says her family is heartbroken over the death of her ranch foreman. Wayne Spears was among those swept away by floodwaters. Lynn gave the update on Facebook after her property was severely damaged. It's in Humphreys County. The water took out roads, telephone lines and shattered homes. Crews have been going door to door to search for those still missing.
2 Biden Says Top Priority Is Getting American's Out Of Afghanistan
President Biden says his top priority is getting Americans safely out of Afghanistan. Speaking from the White House, he noted eleven-thousand U.S. citizens and Afghan civilians have been evacuated from Kabul in the past 36 hours. Biden cautioned there's a long way to go, but the U.S. and its allies are getting the job done. The President also noted he's authorized the use of commercial aircraft to help facilitate the safe movement of evacuees from other countries once they arrive there on U.S. military flights from Afghanistan. None of the commercial aircraft are flying into the Kabul airport. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Antony Blinken says thousands of people are being evacuated from the Kabul airport in Afghanistan – and that Biden has a solid plan. Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Still, Blinken admitted that the situation at the airport is "very volatile."
3 FDA To Give Pfizer COVID Vaccine Full Approval Today
The F-D-A is likely to give the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID vaccine full approval as early as today. That's according to a report from the “New York Times.” If it happens, it would be the first coronavirus vaccine to receive full approval from the FDA. On that note, Surgeon General Vivek Murthy says the Pfizer product approval could lead to even more mandates. He told Fox News Sunday some universities and businesses have been considering a vaccine requirement, but were waiting for the formal approval by the FDA. All three vaccines – Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson – have been given under an emergency use authorization. The Pfizer vaccine was the first COVID-19 vaccine approved for use in the U.S. What about the other two? It’s believed that it’ll likely be a couple of weeks before the FDA considers formally approving the Moderna vaccine with Johnson & Johnson being a few months after that.
