1 Travel Nightmare As Hundreds Of Flights Cancelled
Spirit Airlines cancellations are leaving travelers stuck at the airport. The Florida-based carrier grounded 165 flights on Sunday and FlightAware.com notes more than 300 were canceled yesterday – with hundreds more delayed. Spirit blamed the travel disruptions on a "series of weather and operational challenges" – as in bad weather in the Dallas/Forth Worth hub and crew issues. But they weren’t alone. American Airlines also saw more than 500 of their flights cancelled and more than 800 more delayed. And Southwest wasn’t immune – seeing more than 11-hundred of their flights delayed. Company officials noted that 44 were canceled.
2 White House: Too Many Americans Remain Unvaccinated
While the United States has hit the 70% vaccination goal a month late, it’s finally happened. Still, the White House says too many Americans are still not vaccinated and need to get the shots. That's how White House COVID coordinator Jeff Zients opened a briefing. He said vaccinations are the best way to curb the growing surge of the delta variant. He's also pleased 70-percent of American adults have received at least one shot. That's about a month after President Biden's original goal for hitting that number, but Zients called it a significant milestone. CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky again called COVID a "pandemic of the unvaccinated." She insisted vaccines prevent severe illness, hospitalizations and death. Dr. Anthony Fauci said the vaccines are doing what they were intended to do. Fauci said so-called breakthrough infections among those who have been vaccinated are being curbed by the vaccines. Walensky called Delta different from other strains of the virus and more dangerous.
3 Recent Amazon Stock Dip Costs Bezos Richest Man Title
In case you missed it, a dip in Amazon stock reportedly is costing Jeff Bezos the title of "World's Richest Person." “Forbes” reports the former company CEO lost close to $14-billion when shares fell nearly eight percent Friday after the e-commerce giant reported second quarter earnings. Sitting at the top of the heap now? French businessman Bernard Arnault has taken the title of world's richest with Bezos' misfortune, being worth just over 196-billion dollars. Don’t feel too badly for Bezos, however. He’s currently got $192-billion in the bank – and for the record? Elon Musk is right behind them both with a net worth of just over $184-billion.
