1 Officials Confirm 14 Dead After Cable Car Crashes In Italy

Italian officials say 14 people are dead after a cable car accident in northern Italy yesterday morning. The lone survivor? A five-year-old girl, who at last check remains in critical condition. The Stresa-Mottarone cable car, which takes people from the town on Lake Maggiore to the top of the Mottarone mountain, somehow fell off its cable to the ground and rolled several times down the mountain slope before hitting some trees. Authorities have not released any names of the victims, but it has been confirmed that five Israeli nationals are among the dead – as is the surviving child. As for what happened, witnesses say a hissing sound was heard before the cable car fell about 65-feet. The transportation ministry reports that safety and maintenance records show that the whole lift structure underwent a renovation in August 2016, with a maintenance check last being performed in 2017. Governmental officials have already announced a commission of inquiry to investigate the “technical and organizational causes” of the accident.

2 Report Shows Wuhan Scientists Hospitalized For COVID-like Symptoms in 2019

A new report is raising more questions about the origin of the coronavirus. The Wall Street Journal reports that a U.S. intelligence report showed that three scientists at China's Wuhan Institute of Virology were hospitalized with COVID-19 like symptoms in November 2019. And yes, that’s a lab in the same city where the respiratory illness is thought to have originated. While there's been speculation that the virus could have leaked from the lab, the World Health Organization has said the likelihood that the illness came from a lab is extremely low. Meanwhile, the CDC investigating cases of heart-related symptoms observed mainly in young people and adolescents who received the coronavirus vaccine. The inflammation, which is called ‘myocarditis,’ has not been fatal.

3 New Jersey Police Confirm Two Dead, 12 Injured At House Party

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy calls a mass shooting at a birthday party in South Jersey "a despicable and cowardly act." In a tweet yesterday morning, Murphy urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. Police say that two people were killed and at least a dozen wounded when gunfire broke out just before midnight Saturday at a house in Bridgeton, located about 50 miles west of Atlantic City. There were reportedly hundreds of people at the home taking part in a 90's-themed birthday celebration. Police say a 30-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were killed. There were no immediate arrests or suspects.
