1 Severe Alabama Storms Unleash Flash Flooding In Birmingham

The same system that produced 19 tornadoes across the south in recent days is responsible for dumping torrential rain on central Alabama – and unleashed flash floods in and around Birmingham. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood emergency for Birmingham at the start of the evening commute. Metro Birmingham got several inches of rain and more than half-a-foot fell in some areas. The Weather Service says excessive runoff from the heavy rains will cause flooding in urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses. What now? According to the storm prediction center, about 30-million people from Louisiana to Washington DC are facing high wind conditions and hail.

2 Chauvin Juror Conduct May Force Retrial

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is pushing for a new trial. His lawyer filed a request yesterday, alleging publicity ahead of the proceedings impacted Chauvin's ability to have a fair trial. The motion argues the court "abused its discretion" by not granting a change of venue and also includes claims of "prosecutorial and jury misconduct." But that’s not all – they’re suggesting that one of the jurors deciding Chauvin’s fate may have gone into the trial with a verdict already in mind. That’s because Brandon Mitchell attended a social justice march in Washington D.C. last year – one that the family of George Floyd spoke at. Mitchell’s actions were documented and an image of him wearing a shirt that read “get your knees off our necks” has been circulating on social media.

3 TN Police Say Nashville Active Shooter Call Was A Setup To Shoot Officers

Tennessee police say an active shooter call in Nashville was a "setup" to shoot officers. A Metro Nashville Police officer was injured yesterday while responding to the call at a South Nashville home. According to police, a caller claimed his brother had shot his mother and that gunfire was continuing. Police say the caller opened fire on three officers when they entered the home, shooting one in the arm, and then followed them outside when they retreated. The officers reportedly tried to negotiate with the suspect, who died after shooting himself. Police later determined the man had made the call himself and that no shots had been fired until they arrived.
