1 Severe Weather Affecting Millions Today
Millions of Americans are facing severe weather – and its effects – as a powerful winter storm rolls across the South-Central U.S. Winter storm warnings remain in effect from Wyoming to Illinois as Wyoming, Utah and Nebraska were blasted with up to four-feet of snow over the weekend. But it’s not just snow. The weekend also brought severe weather including tornadoes to the Texas Panhandle, where baseball-sized hail was reported south of Amarillo. Now these same storms are pushing across the Plains and produce heavy rains and possible flooding from Louisiana to Illinois. Meanwhile, four people have been hurt after an avalanche in Utah – it happened about 20 miles southeast of Salt Lake City near Little Cottonwood Canyon. Officials say two people had injuries that required them to be taken to the hospital.
2 Fauci "Did Not Fully Anticipate" How Bad Pandemic Would Become Last Year
We are officially one year into the COVID-19 pandemic, and Dr. Anthony Fauci says it has been much worse than he ever imagined. He also says it’s going to be better before you know it. Sort of. On NBC's “Meet The Press,” Fauci said he knew it could be bad, but he never expected more than half a million Americans would lose their lives to the virus. He added that it's been a trying year on many fronts for everyone. Fauci says this pandemic will be written about in the history books for many years to come. As for the “better” part, over on CNN's “State of the Union,” Fauci said recent government agreements will make sure there are enough vaccine doses for Americans by the summer. He added that CDC guidelines for vaccinated people will be "much more liberal" around Independence Day than they are today...and that those celebrations will be more reminiscent of 2019 than 2020. Fauci added that while he can't predict what the protocols will be at that time, an outdoor barbecue without masks may be possible. Something else possible? The CDC reducing "social distancing" from six-feet to three-feet.
3 Numbers Of Migrants Kids In Immigration Custody Exploding
Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas has been scrambling - directing FEMA to help receive, shelter, and transfer unaccompanied children to the southwestern border. Officials with Customs and Border Protection say the numbers of unaccompanied minors being taken into custody at the board is exploding. The tally also shows no signs of abating. What that means in real numbers? At last check, there are four-thousand, two-hundred and 76 children in custody. Officials says they’re seeing at least 500 children per fay – and in the last week alone, they’ve seen a jump of 25%. That’s leaving these kids in horrendously overcrowded conditions – a Rio Grande Valley facility is at 363% capacity – also lacking the most basic sanitary needs. According to one report, some kids haven’t been able to shower for five days. But they’re also being held in these facilities for longer than the law allows. Added to all this? The Biden administration denying media access to these facilities.
