3 Things To Know Today

1 Texas Drops Mask Mandate, Opens Back Up 100%

Texas is open for business – and you don’t have to wear a mask anymore. That’s the word from Governor Greg Abbott, who says that starting next Wednesday, businesses can re-open at 100-percent capacity and the statewide mask mandate will end. The governor still encouraged people to show personal responsibility and follow CDC COVID prevention suggestions. Abbot explained his decision saying it was important to let businesses decide whether they want to be open. He also cited COVID vaccination numbers along with virus testing, treatment, and P-P-E availability. Not everyone is cheering the plan, however. Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price says Abbott's order is "premature" and is calling on the governor to allow more people to get the COVID vaccine. Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff called it "irresponsible" and said they still have hundreds of people in the hospital with COVID-19.

2 Report: Law Enforcement Prepping For Important Date In QAnon Conspiracy

Police in the nation's capital are planning for extra security for tomorrow, as that’s when some conspiracy theorists believe former President Trump will sweep back into power. Some of the QAnon faithful believe there will also be mass arrests of Democrats and that Trump will be inaugurated as the new leader. While Capitol Police haven't seen any indication that groups are planning any violence, they're also not taking chances. The acting House sergeant-at-Arms is planning to boost security and they're keeping an eye on any potential protests. So where’d they get such an idea? Prior to the 20th amendment getting passed in 1933, March 4th was the date presidents were inaugurated. The date was changed to January 20th to shorten the lame-duck period. As part of that, their theory holds that the U.S. government secretly became a corporation in 1871, meaning all presidents since Ulysses S. Grant have not been legitimate, making Trump the 19th true U.S. president...which is what they think is going to happen tomorrow.

3 Biden: There Will Be Enough Vaccine To Go Around By May

President Biden expects to have enough coronavirus vaccines available for all American adults by the end of May – that's about two months earlier than expected. It comes as Johnson & Johnson is stepping up manufacturing of its new coronavirus vaccine through a partnership with competitor Merck. Biden also announced plans to get shots into the arms of all teachers and childcare workers by the end of this month – as he says that will help get schools reopened quickly. The partnership between the two pharmaceutical giants was brokered by the Biden administration after Johnson & Johnson fell behind on production of its new vaccine. The J&J product is the third coronavirus vaccine now being distributed in the U.S. Biden called J&J and Merck good corporate citizens.
