3 Things To Know Today

1 Impeachment: The Prosecution Rests

Now that House impeachment managers finished two days of opening statement, lawyers for former President Trump will lay out their case starting this afternoon. But yesterday, House managers recapped their case, arguing that Mr. Trump must be held accountable for his actions on January 6th. Maryland Democrat Jamie Raskin told senators there is overwhelming evidence that Trump incited the deadly riot at the Capitol that day. Colorado Democrat Joe Neguse said Trump's rally was a "call to arms." Colorado Democrat Diana DeGette said rioters who invaded the Capitol were there because Trump "told them to." She insisted the insurrectionists believed they were "following orders from the commander in chief." California Democrat Ted Lieu said Trump has shown no remorse and has assumed no responsibility for the Capitol assault...and similarly, Neguse said Trump "struck a match" and aimed it at the Capitol. This, as during his rally, Trump urged supporters to "fight like hell" to "stop the steal" of the presidential election. But above all that, Neguse pointed out that once the attack started, Trump did virtually nothing to stop the attack on the Capitol – something Neguse called it a dereliction of duty.

2 Six Dead, 65 Injured In Massive Texas Pile-up

The death toll is now at five after a massive car crash along Interstate 35 in Fort Worth, Texas – and it’s being blamed on icy conditions. Around three dozen people have been transported to area hospitals, yesterday in what fire Department officials estimate was more than 100 vehicles were involved in the crash. The crash happened shortly after 6am local time – and with 65 reportedly injured, 35 were transported for care. And that’s after getting them out. Officials say a number of people were trapped in their cars for some time and with freezing conditions, hypothermia was also a concern. "My heart is breaking for our community as we come to learn about the extent of the losses we are experiencing from today’s accident. Our community is pouring out support, and I know that so many of you are asking for a way to help," Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price tweeted. "Right now, what Fort Worth needs most is your prayers -- for the families, the injured, and the first responders."

3 CDC: Fully Vaccinated People Can Skip Quarantine

According to a new update from the CDC, those fully vaccinated against the coronavirus are being allowed to skip quarantine if they’re exposed again. But there are conditions – and the guidance applies to both Pfizer's and Moderna's vaccines. The criteria is for people who had their second shot at least two weeks before exposure to somebody infected with COVID won't be required to lock themselves up. But, if the last shot was more than three months ago, those exposed should quarantine. Does that mean you can party like it’s 1999 if you’re vaccinated?? Not so fast. Officials say it’s important to continue practicing safety measures as people may still transmit or transfer the virus and until ‘herd immunity’ is reached, they say it’s better to be safe than sorry.
