3 Things To Know Today

1 Calls Grow Louder For Trump To Be Removed

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer is calling for the immediate removal of President Trump from office. Saying the President incited Wednesday’s insurrection, he maintains that Trump shouldn’t hold office one day longer. He believes the quickest and most effective way to do so would be to have Vice President Mike Pence invoke the 25th Amendment. He’s not alone, of course. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is calling for the same – and says if not, impeachment’s fine, too. Thing is? According to reports, Mr. Pence is not on board invoking the 25th Amendment with Joe Biden's inauguration less than two weeks away. Either way, Articles of impeachment have reportedly been written up, accusing Trump of inciting an insurrection. On Thursday, Trump released an online video condemning the violence that took place. Whether they’ll have the time to make that happen remains the questions – as the President-elect will take office on January 20th. Thing is? While sources say he and Trump are not on speaking terms, it may be a case of Pence simply not having the option. According to the Constitution, can be invoked when the Vice President and a “majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide" declare the president "unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office" in a written declaration.

2 Trump Condemns Violence At Capitol

After months of stridently denying the reality that there’ll be a 46th president being inaugurated, President Trump is now striking a very different tone following the events of Wednesday. After initially calling the rioters "very special," he’s now condemning the violence at the U.S. Capitol. Speaking in a video released online, Trump says those who stormed the Capitol building “do not represent the values” of the nation. He also said “anyone who broke the law will pay the price.” Trump said he was outraged at the mayhem and that he called for the National Guard “to be deployed immediately.” This, as a number of White House sources say it was Pence that look the lead on that front. Still, the clip also served as the first time the President acknowledged Joe Biden would be moving into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. He noted, “My focus now turns to ensuring a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power.” What caused Trump’s change of heart? Tough to say, but word that federal prosecutors are considering charging Mr. Trump with inciting the events of Wednesday, may have been a factor.

3 Report: Trump Preparing A List Pardons...That Includes Himself

Can a sitting president actually pardon himself? We may soon find out as “Bloomberg” is reporting that President Trump has a “sweeping list” of pardons he’s about to issue. Among them? No names are confirmed, but word is that it includes senior White House officials, family members...and possibly himself. Sources say that Trump will issue the list on his final full day in office: January 19th. In the meantime, his legal advisors are said to be vetting the idea of the self pardon, which is not only problematic on its face, but could also prove to be a political liability – as many would say it amounted to an admission of guilt. As for the names that are believed to be on Trump’s pre-emptive pardon list? Daughter Ivanka Trump, her husband, Jared Kushner; Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and Kimberly Guilfoyle, the former Fox News host who is dating his eldest son. Rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black are also said to be on the list. The president wants recipients of the preemptive pardons to be shielded from prosecutions for any federal crimes committed before the pardons were issued.
