Officials in Salem, Oregon are confirming that multiple people are dead after an officer-involved shooting that followed a hostage situation yesterday afternoon – and that’s about all that police are saying. They’re confirming that officers were initially called out for a possible hostage situation. At some point during the ordeal, shots were fired. The Marion County Sheriff's Office says there were multiple deaths, including the suspect. No deputies were hurt in the incident. What they aren’t saying? How many people were killed – or any other details citing the need to notify family members.
3 Universal Health Services Hit By Massive Cyberattack
It's being called one of the biggest medical cyberattacks ever. Universal Health Services is reportedly dealing with a ransomware attack that shutdown computers in some 400 hospitals and care centers mainly in the U.S. The company would only confirm that its network is offline because of an “unspecified IT security issue.,” but apparently, the attack began over the weekend with nurses and other medical staffers said to be hand-labeling medications and logging their reports using pen and paper. “When nurses and physicians can't access labs, radiology or cardiology reports, it can dramatically slow down treatment,” says computer security expert Kenneth White. “And in extreme cases, force re-routing for critical care to other treatment centers...offers the very real possibility that people can die."
