1 Trump Faces Off With Portland Mayor Via Twitter
Who’s at fault for the violence – and fatal weekend shooting – in Portland, Oregon? Depends whom you ask. On one side, Mayor Ted Wheeler says he’s saddened by the violence in his city...but he’s also pointing the finger at President Trump for “boosting” supporters who came to the city before the night got violent. As he made those remarks in a press conference, President Trump fired back in real-time. Trump tweeted as Wheeler was addressing reporters and he called Wheeler "the wacky Radical Left Do Nothing Democrat Mayor of Portland." Trump claimed those in Portland want peace to come to the streets. Wheeler told reporters he's going to support authorities as they search for those responsible for the deadly shooting of a reported Trump supporter. And when he got wind of Trump’s remarks, he also cracked, “I’d appreciate either the president support us or he stay the hell out of the way.” Appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf says the federal government is ready to help – they just need to ask.
2 CDC: More Than 90 Percent of COVID Deaths Had Underlying Cause
A new report from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) shows a vast majority of people who have died from COVID-19 had an underlying health condition – to the tune of 94%. In fact, just six-percent of cases found that COVID-19was the only cause of death. The figures come out of diagnosed cases from February 1st to August 22nd. For the record, the leading underlying conditions related to death from COVID are the flu and pneumonia, respiratory failure, hypertensive disease, diabetes, and vascular and unspecified dementia. Meanwhile, a top health official is stressing the importance of making right decisions in halting the spread of the coronavirus. At an event in Minnesota, Dr. Deborah Birx said she's very confident that community spread can be stopped if people wear face coverings, practice social distancing and avoid crowds. Birx added that wearing masks and social distancing gives us freedom right now, but the goal is fewer cases come fall.
3 Ballistics Report In Breonna Taylor Investigation, But Probe Continues
The attorney general of Kentucky says a key piece of evidence in the investigation of Breonna Taylor's death has finally arrived. On CBS' “Face The Nation,” Daniel Cameron said the ballistics report is now out – but he’s also not tipping his hat as to what it means. Cameron noted that investigation “is not over yet” and that witness testimony is still needed along with interviews. As part of that, he says that no announcement is coming this week. To review, Taylor was shot and killed in Louisville in March during a no-knock raid – the EMT was sleeping in her bed when officers barged in, seeking someone who was already in custody. So far, no officers are facing any criminal charges, but one officer has been fired.
