1 Twin Storms Threatening The Gulf Coast
President Trump says he's monitoring the two storms threatening the Gulf Coast. Hurricane Marco is expected to hit Louisiana today, while Tropical Storm Laura is heading towards the region this week. Noting that having two storms bearing down on the region in quick succession is "somewhat unprecedented," Trump said federal officials are ready. Forecasters say both storms could gain strength before they hit and could bring significant damage once they make landfall. Trump is urging people to follow instructions of their local government officials while Texas Governor Greg Abbott has issued a disaster declaration for 23 counties in Texas as the state prepares for the possible impact. Abbott says an emergency shelter is being set up in San Antonio preparing for up to five-thousand evacuees and 100 buses are being staged should they be needed. The Texas military division, which includes the national guard, is mobilizing more than 800 personnel to support potential rescue and evacuation efforts.
