3 Things To Know Today

1 Officials Say Florida Teen Is Behind Massive Hack Of Celebrity Twitter Accounts

A few weeks ago, we told you about a massive Twitter hack that saw the accounts of former President Barack Obama, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and others compromised and passing along a pitch for a Bitcoin scam. Now, federal officials say they have their hacker...and that it’s a kid. A Tampa teen is in jail and facing 30 felony charges, and has been identified as 17-year-old Graham Clark. He was arrested Friday at his apartment, having allegedly netted about $100-grand in Bitcoin. "There is a false belief within the criminal hacker community that attacks like the Twitter hack can be perpetrated anonymously and without consequence," says U.S. Attorney David Anderson. "Today's charging announcement demonstrates that the elation of nefarious hacking into a secure environment for fun or profit will be short-lived." Clark isn’t alone. The Department of Justice says they've snagged two others in connection with the hack: 19-year-old Mason Sheppard of the U.K. and 22-year-old Nima Fazeli of Orlando.

2 Search For Missing Soldiers Becomes Recovery Effort

The effort to rescue seven Camp Pendleton Marines and a Navy sailor missing since an amphibious assault vehicle sank off the San Diego County coast Thursday is over. All eight are presumed dead, after the AAV sank as it was leaving San Clemente Island. In a statement, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit commanding officer Colonel Christopher Bronzi announced "with a heavy heart" that the mission is now to find and recover their remains. Bronzi says all next-of-kin have been notified. Following the training accident, one Marine was rescued, though later died and two other Marines remain in critical condition. Officials say five have returned to duty. "Our thoughts and prayers have been, and will continue to be with our Marines' and sailor's families," Bronzi says in a statement. "As we turn to recovery operations we will continue our exhaustive search for our missing Marines and Sailor."

3 Dr. Birx: U.S. Is In "New Phase" Of COVID Fight

Dr. Deborah Birx says the fight against the coronavirus in the U.S. is in “a new phase.” In an appearance on CNN's “State of the Union,” the White House coronavirus response coordinator says as opposed to being focused on urban areas, the virus is now “widespread.” But there is good news – Birx noted that steps to slow the spread of COVID-19 are working in the South and West...still, there’s a reason we’re still seeing hot spots. “Across America right now, people are on the move,” she explains. “And so all of our discussions about social distancing and decreasing gatherings to under 10 — as I traveled around the country, I saw all of America moving.” Someone not so confident in Dr. Birx? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. On ABC's This Week, Pelosi said Birx is President Trump's appointee and as much as he gives false information about Covid-19, hinted Birx does, too. When asked about the Pelosi's comments, Dr. Birx says she respects the speaker and pointed to her 40-year career, which included a lengthy Army run.
