MICKEY GUYTON released her song "Black Like Me" yesterday, and the timing is perfect. Not only is the message real, but it's something we NEED to hear and, hopefully, process. She co-wrote it but it's definitely her story. Here's the opening verse:"Little kid in a small town . . . I did my best just to fit in . . . Broke my heart on the playground, when they said I was different." Then it moves to the present, and the sad reality we're in:"Now, I'm all grown up and nothin' has changed.Yeah, it's still the same."But to her credit, she ends it with her head held high and this declaration:"And I'm proud to be black like me." Let's do a sidebar on this. Can we make "Black Like Me" a Number One song?Buy it, tell everyone you know to buy it, and leave positive reviews everywhere. How great would it be for a black woman to top the Country Singles chart right now?It would send a great message to the world . . . and to other African American girls who are doing their best "just to fit in."
