3 Things To Know Today

1 Senate Passes Small Business Aid Bill; Sends To House

A highly-anticipated small business relief bill is headed to the House after passage by the Senate. If passed by the House, the bipartisan measure promises to pump nearly $500-billion dollars into a popular small business loan fund that has run dry. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the small business bill puts an emphasis on community banks and credit unions. The bill also includes 75-billion dollars for hospitals and 25-billion to expand coronavirus testing. He accused Democrats of delaying the additional aid for well over a week. The measure was approved by a "voice vote." Speaking of taxpayer money bailing out the country, a number of corporations and institutions are being called out for receiving any government money during this pandemic. As we told you yesterday, Shake Shack was shamed into giving back the 10-million they received from the Feds. Now? Harvard is taking heat for the money they received – nine-million in all. Speaking to reporters yesterday, President Trump said it wouldn't be right for Harvard to keep – and would ask for it to be returned.

2 White House: Hotspots Are Recovering

The White House coronavirus task force says hotspots across the nation are recovering. Response Coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx points to the Detroit metro area as doing well with a significant decline in new cases – and she says New Orleans is nearly back to the baseline of where they started with new infections. In more good news, Birx says the Chicago and Boston areas appear to be flattening, after a couple of weeks of “unique concern.” Philadelphia, St. Louis, Houston, Atlanta, Nashville, Baltimore and Indianapolis also appear to be flattening. Unfortunately, the DC-Metro is not showing a decline and Birx urges residents to continue social distancing. Speaking of ‘distance,’ President Trump and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo closed their gap. After days of trading barbs publicly, the men met yesterday to discuss regarding the response to COVID-19. Cuomo says it was a productive meeting discussing the partnership with state and federal officials on coronavirus testing...and had a "functional and effective" conversation with Mr. Trump.

3 Trump: Suspending Immigration To Protect Jobs, Block Coronavirus

As we told you yesterday, President Trump is planning to temporarily suspend immigration into the country. Today, we know a bit more. Apparently, he’s planning to hit the pause button for 60-days – and it’ll affect those seeking green cards. Speaking to reporters, Trump said his goal is simple: to protect jobs and block the coronavirus. "By pausing immigration, we'll help put unemployed Americans first in line for jobs as America reopens," Trump explained. "It would be wrong and unjust for Americans laid off by the virus to be replaced with new immigrant labor flown in from abroad. We must first take care of the American workers." The promised executive order is being drafted and Trump could sign it as soon as today – it’s expected to see legal challenges.
