3 Things To Know Today

1 Report: North Korea’s Kim Jong Un In Grave Condition

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un may be gravely ill. According to CNN, the diminutive dictator recently underwent surgery on April 12th and hasn’t been seen since. Sources say his situation is now dire. An American official speaking on the condition of anonymity says that concerns about Kim's health are credible, but the severity is hard to assess. Kim allegedly had some kind of cardiovascular procedure, and while no one knows what it was – we can guess. It was said to be related to his weight, smoking and stress. Still, both China and South Korean officials say they haven’t seen anything that suggests Kim is doing anything, but lounging through his recovery. As one Korea specialist working for the U.S. government said on condition of anonymity notes, “Any credible direct reporting having to do with Kim would be highly compartmented intelligence and unlikely to leak to the media.”

2 Trump To Suspend Immigration By Executive Order

President Trump is suspending immigration into the U.S. amid the coronavirus outbreak. Making the announcement via Twitter, Trump noted the executive order will “protect jobs for American citizens.” This isn’t exactly a complete shock – Trump has previously suspended travel from China and Europe into the U.S. Over 42-thousand people have died in the U.S. from the respiratory illness. Much of the economy has been shut down because of orders for folks to stay at home. There’s no word on the duration of such an order or other details, but we’ll keep you posted.

3 Trump Coordinating With Governors On More COVID Tests

President Trump says he’s coordinating with state governors to access more coronavirus tests. He says he’s also spoken with all 50 governors and connected them with a list of labs in each state which can help provide more testing units. After saying he had ‘total authority’ over the country, Trump now believes the states should lead the efforts in ensuring their local hospitals have the resources to diagnose coronavirus. As for those complaining about his efforts, Trump noted that some governors – naming Governor Larry Hogan of Maryland and Governor J. B. Pritzker of Illinois – “didn't understand” the full capacity of their resources before asking for federal assistance. Meanwhile, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo will be visiting the White House today to further discuss resources and availability.
