1 Coronavirus Concerns Rise In America As Six Die
The number of cases of coronavirus in the United States have jumped – at last check there are 100 – most of which are in California and Washington state. And while there have been six deaths from the illness, it’s worth noting that four of those were residents of a nursing care facility in suburban Seattle. The other two are also in Washington state. Still, nerves for many are getting frayed as there appears to be an inconsistent effort to test Americans returning from affected zones overseas. That said, during a briefing, Vice President Mike Pence maintained that the overall risk to Americans is low. He added officials are ready for anything and this is "all hands on deck effort." To that end, the official totals globally support that notion. Currently, just over 90-thousand people are infected worldwide – and over three-thousand have died. On the plus side, nearly 48-thousand have recovered. The Vice President noted that there are currently no plans to restrict travel within the United States, but Pence promises there will be 100% screening for people who enter the U.S. from Italy and South Korea, where new cases have surged.
2 Biden Heads Into Super Tuesday With A Smaller Field, New Endorsements
Super Tuesday looms large for the remaining Democratic presidential candidates as voters in 14 states will head to the polls today. And while frontrunner Bernie Sanders is expected to do well, former Vice President Joe Biden has new momentum – and a few new endorsements. Biden scored a landslide win in Saturday's South Carolina primary – and with that, came the campaign exits of Tom Steyer and Pete Buttigieg. While Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar vowed to keep going despite her poor finish – she’s apparently had change of heart. Not only that, both she and Buttigieg have thrown their support behind Biden. There’s no indication that Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren will take a similar path – and with that in mind, consider that we’re about to see that the massive spending of former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg results in. The Super Tuesday states include California, Texas, Virginia, Colorado, North Carolina, Massachusetts and Minnesota. Also coming Biden’s way? Another endorsement...by way of former candidate Beto O’Rourke. Biden’s one-time adversary made a campaign stop with him in Dallas last night. I will be casting my ballot for Joe Biden," O'Rourke offered. "We need somebody who can beat Donald Trump. The man in the White House today poses an existential threat to this country, to our democracy, to free and fair elections. And we need somebody who can beat him. And in Joe Biden we have someone who is the antithesis of Donald Trump.”
3 CO Woman Arrested In Stepson’s Disappearance
An arrest has been made in the case of a missing Southern Colorado eleven-year-old. Just over a month ago, Gannon Stauch disappeared – and now his stepmother has been arrested and charged with the first-degree murder after the boy. Previously, Letecia Stauch claimed her stepson left on his own heading to a friend's house, but the doorbell cam of a neighbor showed something else: that the boy got into her truck, they drove away - and she came back alone. And while his location has not been revealed, El Paso County Lt. Mitch Mihalko told reporters at a press conference that “information has been developed” that has narrowed the search. Someone desperate for that news? Gannon’s mother, Landen Hiott. “Justice will be served because my boy does not deserve this,” Gannon’s Hiott told reporters. “Please hold off questions until we know that this person, this stepmom that I even trusted, that she will pay 100% for this thing that she did. Because I want to live on this Earth knowing that justice will be served for my little boy.”
