1 Syria Attack Leaves Dozens Of Turkish Soldiers Dead
The U.S. is putting Syria on notice after an air strike that left over 30 Turkish soldiers dead. The attack by the Syrian government happened in Syria's Idlib region. It was the deadliest day for Turkish forces in the region. The U.S. State Department said it stands behind Turkey and called for an immediate end to the "despicable offensive" by Syria. Given the tension in the region – and the players (namely Russia) – there is deep concern about what comes next. For their part, Russia is denying it was involved in the strike...though the Defense Ministry noted that Turkish troops ‘should not have been in the Idlib area’ and similarly, hadn’t warned the Syrian government any warning about their presence.
2 Lawmakers Assess Actions During Growing Coronavirus Threat
Lawmakers are assessing U.S. actions during the growing coronavirus threat. During a House hearing, CDC Director Robert Redfield called the virus “complicated.” He also noted that people should not be afraid and should not be wearing protective masks unless they are already sick with colds or the flu. Just as President Trump has been saying, Redfield stressed that appropriate measures have been taken involving travel alerts, travel bans and quarantines. For one thing, Jonathon Fritz said the State Department moved quickly to safely evacuate U.S. citizens from China once the outbreak was confirmed. Assurances aside, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has been shedding like crazy. The Dow closed nearly 12-hundred points over fears of the coronavirus spread yesterday. It marked the sixth straight trading session of losses and the biggest single day point drop ever.
3 Harvey Weinstein Remains In Hospital As Lawyers Drop Bid For Release
Harvey Weinstein is still in the hospital – nearly a week after being found guilty of rape and sexual assault. As we told you before, the 67-year-old complained of chest pains and heart palpitations shortly after his conviction and being handcuffed. While ‘Inmate 06581138Z’ awaits his March 11th sentencing, he’s expected to be moved to Rikers Island, where he'll await the ruling. He faces up to 25-years in prison. And yes, he’ll get there – as his attorneys say they’re likely dropping efforts to get him released pending appeal. The thinking is that if they get him out, California authorities will swoop him up. What’s not known? How he’ll be housed at Rikers – his own cell or in the prison medical facility. According to reports, staffers say they won’t be giving him any special treatment — no matter how much he tries to butter up the guards. “They can’t wait to see him in there, to be honest,” one jail staffer told Page Six. “He’s in for a shock.”
