1 Mother Nature Drills East. Leaves Mayhem And Death In Her Wake
A giant winter storm that hammered the middle of the country this past weekend is officially invading the East Coast. While the National Weather Service says the storm could make life miserable for millions more, a tronado in Louisiana is responsible for at least one death– another killing two in Alabama. The National Weather Service says the Louisiana tornado traveled over 60-miles to the town of DeRidder in Vernon Parish, where one person died in their home. Significant damage is being reported, including structural damages to several businesses, homes, a church school, downed powerlines and fallen trees. Meanwhile, two people are dead after a possible tornado roared through northern Alabama. The deaths happened in Town Creek, which is about 45 miles west of Huntsville. A number of others are injured as homes and structures in the area were damaged or destroyed.
2 Impeachment Eve: Schumer Pushes Call For White House Witnesses In Trump Trial
Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer is pushing his call for testimony from some current and former White House officials in a Senate trial of President Trump. Talking with reporters at the Capitol, Schumer said a Senate trial after House impeachment would be a weighty and solemn responsibility. He stressed that a Senate trial must be fair – and reiterated the importance of testimony from witnesses including acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and former National Security Adviser John Bolton. Schumer also wants the Senate to follow the lead of House Democrats and subpoena Trump administration documents that have been withheld. The House is expected to vote to impeach the President tomorrow. As we told you before, a Senate trial would determine whether Trump will be removed from office. While Dems rule the House, the GOP controls the Senate and Schumer said Republicans should not "pre-judge the case" in Trump's favor. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell recently said there's "no chance" the President will be removed from office.
3 Boeing To Suspend Production Of 737 MAX
Boeing is going to suspend production of its troubled 737 MAX airliner. The plane has been grounded around the world since March following two deadly crashes. Boeing's board held a meeting in Chicago over the weekend to discuss the future of the plane. Last week, the head of the FAA said it was unlikely the regulator would allow the plane to return to service until sometime in 2020. As for the workers who’ve been building those planes, Boeing says there are no plans to lay off or furlough the 12-thousand workers at the Washington State factory where the planes are produced.
