3 Things To Know Today

1 SoCal Community Stunned By School Shooting

Officials say it all took about 16-seconds for a Saugus High School high school student to draw a 45-caliber handgun, kill two-students and injure three more. He then reportedly turned his weapon on himself. And while he hasn’t been named, friends of the accused shooter in Southern California community of Santa Clarita describe him as “quiet.” It was also his 16th birthday. Students describe the alleged shooter as being on the cross country team, but keeping to himself especially after his father died two years ago. And according to various reports, the young man never gave any hint of issues that might suggest trouble. As for the victims, the haven’t been named either. They are described as: A 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, died after being taken to a hospital The survivors include a 15-year-old girl, a 14-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy. They were all found in the quad area of Saugus High School this morning before classes began. The gunman is said to be in grave condition. All schools in the district will be closed today out of respect – and while there have been a number of reports about some kind of a warning via social media the night before, that’s been debunked by officials. Police say they still have no motive, but do not suspect any ‘ideology’ is at play. Meanwhile, President Trump is sending his condolences to the families and friends of the victims of today's mass shooting at a Southern California high school. Trump said on Twitter that "we pray for the speedy recovery of the wounded."

2 Trump Impeachment Hearings: Day Two

Day Two of the House Impeachment Hearings get underway this morning at 9am ET. And what we can plan to see? Ousted U.S.-Ukraine Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch [[ yo-VON-ah-vitch ]] taking the stage. As you’ll recall, Yovanovitch was fired after running afoul of Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who was conducting “unofficial diplomacy” in Ukraine. Testifying this week, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent accused Giuliani of launching a smear campaign against Yovanovitch. Kent said Giuliani's efforts to "gin up politically motivated investigations" infected relations with Ukraine. And while President Trump has recently claimed he “doesn't really know” Yovanovitch, though saying he's sure she is a "very fine woman," he’s also tried to tag Ukraine's new president, as wanting Yovanovitch out. Thing is? According to the summary of his July call with Ukraine’s leader, it was Trump who referenced Yovanovitch on the July call, describing her “bad news” and saying she was “going to go through some things.” After today’s testimony concludes, the next hearings will happen Tuesday. Set to testify are Jennifer Williams (a State Department official advising the vice president’s office) and Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman (a National Security Council staffer), Kurt Volker (the former US special representative to Ukraine) and Tim Morrison (a National Security Council staffer). Then on Wednesday, Gordon Sondland, the US Ambassador to the EU will testify in the morning. In the afternoon, Defense Department official Laura Cooper and Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale.On Thursday, former National Security Council staffer Fiona Hill is scheduled to testify.

3 Trump Preparing To Take Private Land For Wall

NBC News is reporting that the Trump administration is moving ahead with confiscating privately-owned land for his border wall. Word is that Jared Kushner is hosting aa the White House today where the plan is expected to be officially unveiled. Meanwhile, the head of Customs and Border Protection has confirmed that there have been no new miles of border wall built at this time. Acting Commissioner Mark Morgan said in a briefing that 78 miles of wall have been put up along the border with Mexico since President Trump took office, but all of it has replaced previously existing barriers that became outdated. Still, he noted the replacement walls “are so superior that it might as well be called new wall.” Morgan added that ground has been broken on a section in Texas where there currently is no wall – and there’s no word on the plan for wall-building in Colorado that President Trump mentioned a few weeks ago.
