1 CA Burning: More Fires Spark As Winds Rage
As firefighters find some success, they’re also being dealt some serious blows in their historic battle in California. First, the good news: Firefighters are gaining the upper hand in Northern California. Cal Fire spokesman Jonathan Cox says the Kincade Fire is now 45% contained, and hasn't seen much growth since the last update. Also, many of those affected by the Getty Fire in SoCal are being allowed to return home. The Los Angeles Fire Department says most of the mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted as the blaze is 27% contained as of last check. But for a number of hours yesterday? We appeared to be losing Ronald Reagan Presidential Library courtesy of the Easy Fire. A powerful brush fire has been stopped just short of the facility – by about 30-yards. Still, officials are cautioning that the fire remains a danger. Thousands of residents are evacuated around Simi Valley, Moorpark and Thousand Oaks as the flames burn over 13-hundred acres. Meanwhile, NBA superstar LeBron James is showing his gratitude to the firefighters battling the Getty Fire in Los Angeles. ‘King James’ sent a taco truck to feed the first responders lunch on Tuesday. The fire has forced many to evacuate, including James and his family. James says what the firefighters are doing takes bravery, sacrifice and commitment, and it doesn't go without notice or appreciation.
2 House Rules Committee Advances Impeachment Resolution For Vote
The first formal vote on the impeachment investigation is going to happen this morning. The House Rules Committee passed a resolution late yesterday with Republicans offering up a slew of amendments. Nearly all were shot down by the Democrats. The resolution establishes procedures for the investigation including public hearings and releasing deposition transcripts. Speaking of the procedures, the House committees conducting the impeachment inquiry are asking former National Security Director John Bolton to voluntarily appear for a deposition on November 7th. The letter was sent to Bolton's attorneys and warns that if he refuses it will be considered evidence of obstruction of justice. No word if he’ll comply. Bolton has emerged as a key witness based on the evidence of previous witnesses. He reportedly objected strongly to the effort to entice Ukraine to open investigations into the 2016 election and former Vice President Joe Biden and his family.
