1 Dems Release House Impeachment Resolution
As expected, House Democrats have released the text of a resolution involving the next steps in the impeachment inquiry into President Trump. The House is expected to vote on the resolution tomorrow. It will formally authorize public hearings and the transmission of witness depositions to the House Judiciary Committee. As part of the resolution, Republicans would be allowed to request witness testimony in the open hearings. But the GOP isn’t exactly jumping for joy. House Republican Whip Steve Scalise [[ skall-EESE ]] complained that Democrats are running an unfair process. Speaking on Capitol Hill, Scalise said Democrats are denying White House lawyers an opportunity to participate in the process. He argued that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should "declare a mistrial." Here’s the thing... the rules at play are those created by Republicans themselves. Just ask commentator Judge Andrew Napolitano, who recently explained on “Fox & Friends”. The rules regarding such proceedings were last written in January 2015 when Republicans held the majority in the House...and the Speaker of the House was John Boehner. Napolitano also said conducting depositions of witnesses to decide their value in a public impeachment proceeding was entirely appropriate.
2 CA Continues To Burn As 25-Million Are Under Red Flag Warnings
Officials in California currently have 25-million people in California under Red Flag warnings right now as 10 active fires burn across the state. That means high winds are increasing the fire danger. In the danger zone – 43 counties, including San Diego, Los Angeles, Sacramento and San Francisco. Southern California alone could see the strongest winds in years. Meteorologists say it will feel like a hurricane with gusts between 50 and 70 miles an hour. The massive wildfire in Northern California is still growing as firefighters try to bat down the flames. A spokesperson for Cal Fire says the Kincade Fire climbed over 76-thousand acres last night and was still only 15-percent contained. Southern California’s Getty Fire also stands at 15% containment – and officials are blaming the blaze on the wind. Apparently, the fire was sparked when high winds carried a tree branch into a power line – and it was all caught on dashcam video from a car. Crews are on guard for hurricane-like winds. Los Angeles Fire Department Assistant Chief Jaime Moore says that evacuations are key to prevent historic disaster. “We know the footprint that this fire can make with heavy gusts of wind," Moore explains. "As these Santa Ana winds come through ... probably the worst winds Los Angeles has seen in the last two to three years." He also warns that the winds can also trigger significant fires by stirring up embers and then moving them miles away.
3 Thousands Of Migrants Evading Border Patrol
The number of people caught trying to cross the border illegally is down, but it’s not because fewer are trying to cross – officials say it’s because even more are evading capture. In fact, the tally is up to 150-thousand were missed by agents this year. That’s the word from Acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark Morgan. He puts some of the blame on reassigning agents as nearly half were moved from security checkpoints to the border line earlier this year. And by the way? Nearly one-million illegals were stopped at the border last year. In 2019, border agents stopped 608,697 unauthorized family members and unaccompanied children so far. "These are numbers that no immigration system in the world can handle,” Morgan noted. “Not even in this country.”
