1 Trump Calls Impeachment Inquiry "Lynching"
President Trump likens the House impeachment inquiry to a "lynching." He tweeted the controversial reference yesterday, saying that Democrats are denying him due process, fairness or any legal rights. Trump added – "All Republicans must remember what they are witnessing here...But we will WIN!" Maybe, maybe not...but just about everyone is outraged by the remark – Democrats and Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Senator McConnell criticized the President's choice of words saying that given the nation's history – it was an "unfortunate choice of words." Still, he accused House Democrats are presiding over a grossly unfair process. About the only person not upset? South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, who told reporters that the investigation into Trump is “a lynching in every sense.”..Acting Ukraine Ambassador William Taylor reportedly gave some damaging testimony about Mr. Trump – Taylor was deposed behind closed doors in the House impeachment inquiry yesterday. According to the “New York Times,” Taylor drew a direct line between Trump's withholding of planned U.S. aid to Ukraine and his demand for investigations of Democrats. Others described Taylor as describing administration efforts both “intensive and pervasive.” Trump has denied any quid pro quo. Trump's
And about Taylor’s testimony? The White House says news coming out of the Taylor's deposition was "more triple hearsay and selective leaks" and also called the impeachment effort a "coordinated smear campaign" coming from the far-left.
ONE MORE THING! While former Vice President Joe Biden also came out swinging about the President’s choice of words regarding the impeachment inquiry, he’s now apologizing...because he once said something very similar. The comments came in 1998 and he said that the Clinton impeachment proceedings could be seen as 'partisan lynching.' Biden has offered his mea culpa by tweet. “This wasn’t the right word to use and I’m sorry about that,” he wrote, “Trump on the other hand chose his words deliberately today in his use of the word lynching and continues to stoke racial divides in this country daily.”
2 Anonymous Op/Ed Writer Has New Book Coming Out
Whoever wrote that explosive 2018 “New York Times” op/ed charging that some White House staff were working to keep President Trump's impulses from doing damage to the nation is writing a new book. The book "A Warning" by Anonymous is set to be published next month. As you might recall, the author wrote the "I am part of the resistance inside the Trump Administration" op/ed that was published in September of 2018. In it the author made claims of hiding documents from the President. The publisher says they have gone to extraordinary lengths to hide the identity of the author. They said they did verify that the author is the same person who wrote the op/ed. To that point, the publisher claims the book “will begin where the op/ed left off” providing a first-hand account of President Trump and his record. Originally, Trump had ordered then Attorney General Jeff Sessions to find out who wrote that Times op/ed. White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham notes, “Takes a lot of conviction and bravery to write whole book anonymously.” No word on Trump’s reaction, but when the op/ed was initially written, Trump suggested it was “treason.”
For those suggesting this is all about money? That depends on your perspective. Apparently, the author turned down a seven-figure advance and plans to donate a substantial amount of royalties to the White House Correspondents Association and other free speech organizations.
