El Chapo's Son Released After Gun Fights With Mexican Authorities

MEXICO-CRIME-UNREST-DRUGS-GUZMAN

The son of former drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman is reportedly no longer in police custody after fierce gun battles in the western city of Culiacan. Ovidio Guzman was briefly captured by Mexican security forces in the city that's the hub of El Chapo's Sinaloa cartel. However, cartel gunman scrambled and battled with security forces. Mexican media outlets say they were forced to release Ovidio to avoid further violence. Ovidio has reportedly been a big influence in the cartel since El Chapo was arrested and turned over to U.S. authorities. El Chapo is currently serving a life sentence for a number of charges.
