KFC Selects “Rudy” Actor Sean Astin To Play Colonel Sanders

Just in time for the kickoff of the 2019 NFL season, KFC has chosen the next Colonel Sanders. “Rudy” star Sean Astin reprises his role as the college football legend in a new KFC ad campaign, becoming “Colonel Rudy.” In the ad titled “Rudy II: He’s Colonel Sanders Now,” Asin recreates multiple scenes from the film with a twist. This time, instead of dreaming of playing college football, his dream is to become Colonel Sanders. Next thing he knows, he’s donning the white hair, glasses and black bow tie and charging onto the field, bucket of chicken in hand. Astin joins the long list of celebrities portraying the Colonel, including Jason Alexander, Ray Liotta, and Reba McEntire. “When KFC approached me to reprise the role of Rudy, but play him as Colonel Sanders, I knew this was something I couldn’t pass up,” Astin says in a statement. “Getting to recreate some of the film’s iconic scenes with a KFC spin was such a fun experience.”
