3 Things To Know Today

1 Trump Talks Guns And “Greatness” At NH Rally

President Trump says his administration has succeeded in making America great again. Hosting a campaign rally in New Hampshire last night, Trump also unveiled a new campaign hat that reads, "Keep America Great." Taking some expected pot shots at his Democratic rivals, he also talked business – namely the economy, and gun control. Making his pitch to keep his job, Trump maintained that he must be re-elected to preserve a strong economy in the U.S. Trump warned that 401Ks will "go down the tubes" if he loses next year. "Whether you love me or hate me,” he added. “You gotta vote for me." Trump portrayed Democrats as radicals who want to tear the country apart and said Dems like to "rage and resist." As for the topic of guns, Trump says the government is working hard to keep guns "out of the hands of insane people." Focusing on mental illness after the recent deadly mass shootings in Texas, Ohio and Northern California, he said – "It's not the gun that pulls the trigger, it's the person holding the gun." He’s also noted that he supports a "meaningful" expansion of background checks.

2 Israel Bars Visits By Muslim Congresswomen

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is barring visits by two U.S. Congresswomen, who are Muslims. Representatives Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan were scheduled to start their visit on Sunday. While the move may not be surprising to some considering both Congresswomen have been harsh critics of Israel, it’s President Trump’s involvement that’s raising eyebrows. What happened? President Trump had urged Netanyahu to close the door to the Congresswomen via Twitter. But more on that in a minute. Netanyahu says the ban is all about the political positions promoted by Omar and Tlaib. "As a free and vibrant democracy, Israel is open to critics and criticism, with one exception: Israeli law prohibits the entry into Israel of those who call for and work to impose boycotts on Israel," Netanyahu said in a statement. "Congresswomen Tlaib and Omar are leading activists in promoting the legislation of boycotts against Israel in the American Congress." So where does Trump fit in? Israel had recently approved entry for the women…until President Trump took to Twitter and things suddenly changed. “It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep.Tlaib to visit,” he wrote. “They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds. Minnesota and Michigan will have a hard time putting them back in office. They are a disgrace!”

3 Trump Tosses Around Idea Of Buying Greenland

President Trump is reportedly toying with the idea of buying Greenland. The “Wall Street Journal” reports that the President has repeatedly asked advisers about the possibility with "varying degrees of seriousness." However, he's reportedly also asked his White House counsel to check out whether it can be done. It's unclear how the U.S. could proceed with the purchase, but at least two sources claim the President has raised the issue more than once, asking aides and listening seriously about the possibility and advantages of owning Greenland. For the record, Greenland is the largest island in the world and currently part of Denmark's territory, though it has autonomous rule. And this isn’t the first time such an idea has floated about. Back in 1946, the U.S. proposed paying Denmark $100-million to buy Greenland after flirting with the idea of swapping land in Alaska for strategic parts of the Arctic island.
