3 Things to Know Today

1 House Passes Border Funding Bill

Crisis over? Not exactly. The House has passed a four-and-a-half-billion-dollar emergency funding package for the southern border. The measure, which passed 230-195, provides funding for the agency tasked with housing unaccompanied migrant children. Democrats made last minute changes to the bill, setting strict standards for conditions at migrant facilities amid reports that migrant children are being kept in poor conditions. As we told you before, hundreds of the reportedly two-thousand migrant children in Customs And Border Protection (CPB) custody were moved this week amid revelations of horrendous conditions. And while you might be thinking the funding is a great move forward to solve the problem, the White House is threatening to veto the House bill over a dispute over funding for ICE. Meanwhile, the Senate is working on its own version of the bill and lawmakers hope to have a final version on President Trump's desk by July 4th.

2 It’s Official: Mueller To Testify July 17th

Special Counsel Robert Mueller will testify in the House next month. On July 17th, the leader of the Russia probe will testify in public sessions of the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees. Those sessions will be followed by closed-door meetings where lawmakers can discuss more sensitive subjects. The chairmen of the committees issued a joint statement saying that Americans deserve to hear from Mueller. Mueller's final report on Russian interference in the 2016 election outlined the lengths Russia went to influence the election. While it didn't find any collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, the report also laid out possible instances of obstruction of justice by President Trump, but stopped short of determining whether he committed a crime. The President’s response to the news? Taking to Twitter overnight, he offers, “Presidential Harassment!”

3 Trump: Very Concerned About Conditions In Migrant Detainee Facilities

President Trump says he is “very concerned” about conditions at migrant detainee facilities. Talking with reporters at the White House, Trump insisted that the facilities are in better shape than they were during the Obama administration. He again pushed Democrats to help change U.S. asylum laws. As you’ll recall, Trump was ready to roll with immigration raids this past Sunday before pulling back at the request of Democrats – to allow time to come to an agreement. Adding to all the drama? The sudden departure of Acting Customs and Border Protection chief John Sanders. He offered no reason for his departure, but we know one thing – it wasn’t because the President demanded it. That’s something Trump himself told reporters…when he also admitted he’s never even spoken to Sanders. The resignation takes effect on July 5th.
