1 The World Remembers D-Day
The world is remembering the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion. President Trump, Queen Elizabeth and other leaders gathered yesterday in Portsmouth, England, a day before the anniversary of the largest amphibious invasion in human history. In all, more than four-thousand soldiers died in the opening hours of the Normandy invasion, a move that opened a second front against Nazi Germany. When it was done? More than 9,000 Allied Soldiers were killed or wounded, but their sacrifice allowed more than 100,000 Soldiers to begin the end of World War Two. The ceremony was marked with speeches and stories of what General Eisenhower called the "Great Crusade." Around 300 American and British war veterans were there to remember one of the most pivotal moments of the 20th Century. More events will be held today in France - D-Day veterans will be joined by President Trump, British Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron.
2 Pelosi: Forget “Impeach,” I Want Trump In Prison
In case you’ve wondered why House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been cool to the notion of impeachment...word is, it’s because she’s got her eyes on a far bigger “prize.” “Politico” is reporting that Pelosi is telling senior Democrats that she'd like to see President Trump in prison. But that’s not all. “Politico” also says Pelosi clashed with House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler. The meeting reportedly took place late Tuesday night and Politico is citing multiple Democratic sources familiar with the meeting. Nadler reportedly asked Pelosi for the second time to let him start the effort to impeach Trump. Pelosi allegedly responded, "I don't want to see him impeached, I want to see him in prison." But publicly? Pelosi isn’t showing any signs of feeling pressured on impeachment. Speaking at the Capitol yesterday, Pelosi offered, "We know exactly what path we're on." Pelosi called impeachment an "indictment" and said a rock-solid case must be built first. She said there is "great grief and sadness and pain in our country about the behavior of this President."
3 US, Mexico Fail To Reach Deal On Tariffs, Immigration
No deal has been reached on tariffs or immigration in a meeting between U.S. and Mexican officials at the White House. Mexico's foreign minister met with Vice President Mike Pence at the White House in hopes of striking an agreement before new tariffs go into effect next week. The tariffs on all Mexican imports will start at five-percent and will gradually increase unless Mexico makes efforts to curb illegal immigration into the U.S. The tariffs will top out at 25-percent in October and will remain in place until Mexico satisfies U.S. demands on immigration. But the discussions will continue. President Trump says via Twitter that talks with Mexico over tariffs and immigration will resume today. Trump tweeted that the negotiations made some progress, “but not nearly enough.” One person completely unimpressed? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who says the tariff threat is simply a "distraction from the Mueller report."
