3 Things To Know Today

1 12 Taken To Hospital After F-16 Crashes Into CA Warehouse

Officials are investigating after an F-16 crashed into a warehouse near March Air Reserve Base in Riverside, California yesterday afternoon. And while the plane was reportedly carrying a live weapon when it crashed, there was no explosion. Cal Fire Captain Fernando Herrera says it is remarkable a plane with jet fuel did not explode after creating a giant hole in the roof of the commercial building – and apparently, the building’s sprinkler system is what should be thanked for that. In the end, a dozen people were still taken to the hospital for their exposure to the crash, but no one was seriously injured. As for the pilot, ejected before it slammed into the building and safely landed (the pilot’s identity has not been confirmed). He's also being treated at a local hospital.

2 Trump On New Immigration Plan: "It's Time"

"It's time." That's what President Trump said in the Rose Garden as he unveiled his new immigration reform plan. In a White House speech, Trump called it a "merit-based, high-security" plan and said it will "help all of our people." He argued that it will create a fair, modern and lawful immigration system. Trump said his plan fully secures the southern border with a massive wall and stressed that the plan will stop the smuggling of migrant children and would fix a broken asylum system. The plan aims to move the U.S. toward a merit-based immigration system. This merit-based system would put an emphasis on highly skilled and educated migrants. New entrants would also be required to learn English and pass a U.S. civics test. The Trump plan is expected to go nowhere in the divided Congress...something he noted…by taking a shot at Democrats, saying they are “for open borders” and "lawless chaos." One important group not addressed? Dreamers, the millions of young men and women who were brought into the U.S. illegally as children. The plan also contains no path to citizenship for immigrants who are currently living in the U.S.

3 Dems Give New Trump Immigration Plan A Chilly Reception

In a statement that shocks no one, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is calling President Trump's newly unveiled immigration plan "dead on arrival." In a statement, the California Democrat slammed the plan, saying it's "not remotely serious." She said the White House has "repackaged the worst of its failed immigration plans," like continuing family detentions, funding the wall on the U.S.-Mexico border and gutting refugee protections. She also said calling the plan "merit-based" is the "height of condescension." Pelosi noted that Democrats will continue to fight for immigration reform and are interested in working with the White House once they put forward a reasonable plan that actually reflects the nation's interests.
