3 Things To Know Today

1 Trump To Visit Border Friday

President Trump will visit the U.S.-Mexico border on Friday…what we know for sure? That the President is expected to check out a newly completed section of border wall near Calexico, California. What we don’t? If he’s actually going to go through with his threat to completely close the border with Mexico. As we’ve been telling you, Trump is threatening to shut down the border if Mexico does act more definitively to stop migrants headed to the U.S. He also warned Mexico to stop migrant caravans from Central America. Either way, he’s not getting much support from within his own party – as Republicans, from the top on down to the local level, have spoken out about the devastating economic impact should the President follow through. “It’s part of the way he negotiates, but I’m not sure that’s a particularly good idea and I’m not sure it gets the desired result,” says Senate Majority Whip John Thune. “Tactically it doesn’t get a result and probably has a lot of unintended consequences ... there’s a lot of bilateral trade at the border.”

2 White House Overruled 25 Denials Of Security Clearances

Critics of President Trump outside the White House are nothing new, but someone INside the administration stepping forward? That’s very unusual and in this case, a whistleblower is claiming the Trump administration overruled 25 denials of security clearances. And that list includes three "very senior" officials. Veteran security specialist Tricia Newbold has the House Oversight Committee that the White House's actions could jeopardize national security – and says she came forward as it was her "last hope" to "bring the integrity back into" the office. As for the reasons why the applicants were denied, the Committee memo reads that Newbold told lawmakers that among the most “serious disqualifying issues” were “foreign influence, conflicts of interest, concerning personal conduct, financial problems, drug use, and criminal conduct.”

3 Another Accuser For Biden Doesn’t Mean He’s Reconsidering 2020 Plans

Former Vice President Joe Biden's decision on whether to run for president isn't being impacted by what is now two accusations of inappropriate behavior. Word is that the former VP is not reassessing his 2020 plans (though he has not made a final decision yet). As we told you before, former Nevada Assemblywoman Lucy Flores, says that Biden placed his hands on her shoulders, smelled her hair and “planted a slow kiss” the back of her head back in 2014. But now, a Connecticut woman has come forward, charging that back in 2009, Biden pulled her in and rubbed noses with her during an event. Both women said the incidents crossed the line...but also, that they don’t believe there was malintent. While Biden hasn’t stepped out with a significant pushback (outside of releasing a statement), folks in his camp are certainly in attack mode – going after his detractors. And while the already-declared Dem candidates have said in unison that they believe the women, one major player is stepping out to say that the accusations aren’t a disqualifier. “I do not,” says House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. “I don’t think that this disqualifies him from being president. Not at all.”
