The San Antonio River will once again be dyed green this month in honor of St. Patrick's Day. The river along the downtown stretch of the River Walk will be dyed green from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, March 17th. The following day, the river will be dyed green twice, from 11 a.m. to noon along the Museum Reach, and from 1 to 3 p.m. again along the downtown stretch. The river has been dyed green and temporarily renamed the River Shannon every year since 1968. The eco-friendly dye is dispensed from a barge carrying a bagpiper.
