Proposed Charter Amendment Faces Legal Challenge From Pro-Life Group

A proposed charter amendment is facing a legal challenge before the city council has put it on the ballot. Council members are expected to approve putting the proposition on the May 6th ballot this week. The proposition ostensibly decriminalizes marijuana and abortion, bans police chokeholds and no-knock warrants, and appoints a justice policy director. The Texas Alliance for Life wants the Texas Supreme Court to divide the proposed amendment into separate propositions. No word yet as to whether high court will take up the issue.
