Some Republican state lawmakers are taking a second look at a means of taking on the fentanyl crisis ahead of the next legislative session. Gov. Greg Abbott expressed support earlier this month for legalizing fentanyl test strips. They help users help tell whether the drugs they're about to take contain fentanyl. Abbott had previously opposed the policy, but said the increase in opioid overdose deaths brought him around. Republicans tend to oppose the test strips and syringe exchange services, concerned that they may enable drug use.
